Psicoterapia Individual

This is probably the more traditional and recognized type of psychotherapy. The layman in Psychology easily evokes the scene in which the psychologist and the client are in clinical attendance.

People who never went through the psychotherapeutical process usually ask: What is the purpose of looking for a psychologist? Is this person becoming crazy? What types of problems he can not solve alone?

In the layman’s vocabulary, there is some difficulty in classifying “craziness”. A crazy person is someone who acts differently from the large number of people, considered normal. Also, they commonly present psychiatric problems.

The psychologist in his work rarely has the opportunity of treating “craziness” associated to psychiatric problems. On the contrary, he often treats, in the larger number of cases, common people, who have normal lives, whose nobody would say that they present some type of “craziness”.

The problems treated by clinical psychologists vary largely. Nevertheless, they can be classified as “relationship problems”. These problems can be related to relationships of the individual with the world, with other people or with himself.

Frequently, these problems are not clearly perceived. For instance, suffering because of the fear of loosing someone can be very silent; feeling bad for not knowing how to deal with situations in which other people deal well; fear of closing business in an organization; fear of driving a car alone. These problems affect the self-esteem of the individuals and often are not communicated to others. When they are, the people do not have tools to help their friends efficiently.

The work developed in the Behavior Therapy intends to eliminate the pain of the individual, identity and share the causes and the conditions that are maintaining this pain; seek for strategies for the person to learn how to deal with new problems in the future.

The psychologist with specialization in Behavior Therapy is a professional who has theoretical, technical and practical knowledge in behavior modification. This knowledge, along with the client’s life experience help to promote self-knowledge, increase of the self-esteem, elimination of undesired feelings and behaviors, better abilities to deal with people, more capability of analysis regarding situations in life, causes of actual actions and a functional plan for future actions.

There are lots of misconceptions about Behavior Therapy and the psychologist’s work on individual psychotherapy, the client and psychologist relationship, which is not distant. The goal of this type of psychotherapy is the human and sincere interaction based on the genuine interest in the improvement of the client.

Because its actual and consistent scientific basis, the Behavior Therapy presents significant results in a short period of time compared to traditional therapies. People have been continuously seeking this approach, searching for an efficient relief from their psychological pain.
